318is Can't get AC belt on
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:54:11 PM »
I can't for the life of me figure out how to loosen the pulley for the ac belt.  I've got a bolt that screws on, but don't seem to connect to anything other than a chunk of metal inside a nearly impossible to see compartment, to which I think connects to the pulley.

I've tried removing the screw, lightly hammering at the pulley to push it, hammering lightly at the screw while in, and using a screwdriver to wedge between the metal object inside and the mount, all of which result in nothing.  Am I missing something here?

You have to pop the plastic cover off the pulley and in behind it there is a bolt that holds the pulley on . Loosen that and you should be able to adjust it.

Holy wow, I would have never thought that was a little cover!  Thanks a ton guys.  I've driven without AC in over 100F weather and I really missed it.

Alright, got it hooked up.  Again thanks a lot guys.  Can I ask what manual you're using to get the exploded diagrams?  My Haynes manual doesn't even mention doing anything but checking the AC belt, much less changing it.

That diagram is from realoem.com. You should check it out if you haven't, highly recommended.
