Replacing Driver's Side Door Window
« on: May 01, 2010, 10:08:19 AM »
I've been having a little trouble replacing the driver's side door window in my '91 318is. I've got the correct glass -- the old glass exploded, so it was easy enough to remove the old window -- but I cannot figure out the trick to get the window guides on the regulator's rollers.

The Bentley procedure looks to be for an early model (I don't have bolts for the glass on the regulator's arm). It looks like the two rollers sit inside the guides attached to the window. My problem is that I can get either roller on, but not both -- I'm not sure of the trick or if I'm missing a step that would make this easier.

Have any of you had experience with changing the window? How'd you get the new one in? Some of the posts I've found suggested unbolting the motor, but that doesn't sound like it would work unless I had the whole unit out of the car. I could be wrong though.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SOLVED: If you are interested, unbolt the right arm (the bolts are on the LEFT side). You can then guide the window so that the rear roller goes in the rear guide. Then roll the window up about 1/2 the way and fiddle with the arm until you can get it in. It really only takes about 5 minutes.
