Unless you have a parts car and the best luck in the world with rust, then I wouldn't count on the swap taking less than 24 hours.

what i need a parts car for? and rust? huh?

i wrecked a 318iS a wee while back....still not sure what i want to do with the engine, so i want to give it a go in my car. see what it feels like.

my main concern is wiring looms matching, so any help or thoughts concerning that would be great

and about facelifts, iS's are all facelifts, my car is a facelift 325..do they share the same car loom? 318 vs 325

and i dont imagine it will take 24 hours, but it will be fun to try :D

The wiring looms from the M20 is very different than that for the M42.  Different sensors, different ignition components, different injector booms.  IIRC from when i wrecked & stripped a 318iS, you have to chop the engine harness from the fuse box...and the wires differ between the M42 & M20.  Swapping fuse boxes means swapping every wire in the whole car.  The engine part could be done in a day probably.  The electrical part, you are lookin at a week minimum to do it RIGHT.  I think you owe somene $100 lol.

Visit HERE for a plethora of 318iS stuff and some other randomness.  Would you say I have a, plethora, of pinatas?

the car loom, not the engine loom, is different??

bugger...what about the 318i car loom? have one of those i might look at putting it into.

else i could figure out some sort of adaptor to plug straight into the 325i car loom big plug...all i would need to do is get the wires themselves sorted and what they did, on the m42 as opposed to the ones going into the m20 car.

hmm

not giving up yet...never said when the 24 hours had to start!

brilliant...need to talk to him

been comparing the car loom harness connector thing...( i know thats probably not its real name) the only difference is the 325i having an extra two wires, blue with thin black, and green and purple. sounds about right the 325i has OBC, the iS didnt....and im sure there is something else.

i need to have a better look (ie in the daytime) but the 325i has an extra blue and black (which i THINK is oil level) and a purple and brown (which according to m50 stuff is fuel relay)

another explanation is that one is the oil level, and one the OBC speedo signal

hmm...might give it a go and see where i end up!

just musing out loud here..will try get someone to take pics...should be fun
