What do you think about ZDDPlus additive. First of all I want to say that usualy I'm against oil additives and I think most of them are "snake oil".

After some reading this one convinced me. Bellow are some quotes from their advertising. By the way they recommend it only for track/racing, off-road purposes, this way limiting a lot their potential clients. This seems to me that the company is less profit-oriented.

"After 70+ years of trouble-free, metal-metal engine protection, the E.P.A. is forcing ZDDP (Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphate, containing both Zinc and Phosphorus) from domestic motor oil. If your engine was designed prior to the 1990s, your non-roller lifters require ZDDP in your motor oil to avoid premature deterioration. Don’t let your lifters run metal-to-metal. Keep ZDDP, via ZDDPlus™, in your motor oil.   Add 4 oz  of  ZDDPlus™ at every 4 to 5 quart oil change. "

"While ZDDP levels have been gradually reduced starting with SG oils in 1988, it is the latest SM designated oil with the nearly total elimination of ZDDP has raised the concerns of all vintage auto enthusiasts who fear the worst for their cams and lifters."

There is a proven fact that anti-wear aditives have been gradualy reduced in newer oils because removing them from motor oil increases the life of the catalytic converter.

It makes sense.

I suspect it's recommended for off-road only because it's bad for catalytic converters.  I don't think it's necessary, but I also don't see it hurting anything in small doses.

I'm betting our engines don't need it, but if you decide it's critical I'd go look for some special purpose racing, diesel or motorcycle oils.

Valid and true.  I use Rotella Synthetic for it's 1220 ppm of ZZDP.  Look around on the net , you'll find plenty.  Mobil one 10-50 has it also , not the lower vis. #s. MM
