This problem was begining to disturb me a bit. I got 21.9 mpg with the stock chip so I put my Dinan Chip back in. But I got out my owners manual because I wanted to know what 2 of those tools in the tool kit were but found some statistics about the engine, but never about the tools....

The Fuel tank for the 318i/s/Convertible is at 14.5 US Gallons
The 318i/s weighs 2602 Pounds with a full tank unloaded
The 318i/s/Convertible puts out 134 ponies at 6000 rpm
The 318 puts out 127 pounds of torque at 4600 rpm
The 318 has a top speed of 122 mph

Also the fuel warning light comes on when there is 1.6 gallons left.

So no info on the tool kit but a good bit of info on the basics.
So does anyone have any info on the tool kit? I can not figure out 2 of the tools. I figured one of them was a wheel aligner but it fits with the hexigon thing.....

Aren't you supposed to use 91+ with a Dinan chip? I don't have one, but I've been putting 93 in mine for as long as I've had it.

A full tank gets me between 335 and 365 miles. I reset the trip when the light comes on, and I've gone over 70 miles with the light on. Never ran out of gas, but didn't want to press my luck. I tried to figure out the mathematical stuff, but it made my head hurt. When I checked the 318is' specs online, it said 16.4 gallon tank, but I'm pretty sure that's a lie. Somehow those numbers don't add up.

I used to have a 325 eta, which is supposed to have the same fuel economy as the 318is. I put regular in it, and a full tank got me about 275 miles. Same amount went in at fill up. When I had to get that car to pass emissions, I used 93 for a month, and my miles per gallon improved significantly As far as I can tell, paying an extra $2 for almost 90 more miles to the tank is the economical way to go, which is one of the reasons I use 93.

This is not scientific. Just my own anecdotal evidence.

I usually get 28 combined and a little over 31 when on the freeway.

no clutch fan

Keep in mind that my engine also has about 2.5k miles on a full rebuild.

FYI EPA rating in the 318is is like 19 in the city

with my chip i drove the piss out of mine in redline a lot and i was still getting 250-300 miles a tank and on long trips i could go 340 miles and fill up near the end and barely be under 1/4 tank!

I do put 93 oct in my car. I do not put anything lower If I have to have ethy in my car, I want the best gas I can get. The only place I used to get ethy free gas is gone (my dads store) so I try to only put gas which has 10% or less. I havn't found a 5% yet and do not think I will.

The fuel tank is only 14.5 and thats from the owners manual. The gas light comes on when there is 1.6 gallons left.

I would love a MarkD Chip However they are expensive

I love the m42 but.... I don't think I would have the m42 rebuilt. I think I rather do a s52 swap. But that is just me.

I heard the DASC improves Gasmilage but thats the price of the car in one component much less a price for 1 semester of college

ive done a 24v swap... and i gotta say i LOVE it

gas mileage isnt quite there anymore because u cant help not flooring it when u wanna get thrown into the seat! lol

I used to complain about my mileage, but I think I was wrong. I generally use tractor gas (I don't drink the premium kool aid) and was doing pretty well. Here in Germany, the fuel is much higher quality I believe and I've been getting about 26 in mixed driving without getting over 65 or 70mph at any point (believe it or not, people here don't drive fast anywhere but the speed free zones on the autobahn). That was based strictly off the odometer at fill ups.

I also drive like a TOTAL pansy most of the time rarely getting over 3k on the tach. I finally fixed my OBC to work correctly and including a consistent run of close to 50 miles at 95mph with the cruise on yesterday on the autobahn but mostly backroads, the OBC says I'm still at 29mpg, but I think it's a bit optimistic.

Here is the funny part: I've not pulled the plugs to even look at them yet or the air filter. The O2 sensor may or may not be bad as it passed one test and failed another and I didn't get enough response in a thread I started here to determine if it is bad. I also run a bike rack most of the time (but didn't yesterday).

My trip back from GA to Philly (all highway), I got around 370+(before the light turns on) a tank. Driving in the city give me very low gas mileage.

i have a 55 liter tank and i can do 610km till the reservelight goes on.

So I got off my lazy butt and unplugged the battery the other day to reset the OBC. On the trip I mentioned where I got 29 mpg according to the OBC with back roads shenanigans for a bit and a decent run for a while at between 95 and 100 mph, was correct! At least verified by the odometer. This was also mostly with the AC on.

The funniest part is that I've not even checked the air filter or spark plugs since I bought it, let alone cleaned the MAF. All I've done is change the oil and all other fluids (except coolant) and I checked the O2 sensor which as I said may or may not be in spec.

What I found to be a MUUUUCH bigger impact than I expected was the bike rack. That costs me from 3-5 mpg it seems. I'm going to finish this tank and then put the rack back on to confirm, but that is a big difference- big enough that the rack will stay off unless needed, despite the fact that it looks really cool. The car is MUCH quieter without it as well.

I'm planning on a COP conversion, electric fan, and a higher temp thermostat to help even more. Eventually I'll do an exhaust, but that is after I get back to the States.

Also, the other specs; stock size tires on basketweaves and small case 4.10 LSD out back. Car has just about 190k miles on the clock.
