Clutch Kit + Clutch Tools
« on: March 10, 2010, 03:05:28 PM »
I'm going to replace my clutch and pressure plate while my transimssion is out. I see there's two kits on realoem. One is for A/C cars and the other for non A/C cars. My car came with A/C but it's been removed. I still get the A/C kit right? Anybody know the difference?

Also Bentley tells me I need a "Clutch Pilot Tool" also known as a "Clutch Arbor" and a Flywheel Fixture necessary to hold the flywheel while you  remove the siz pressure plate bolts. Do these come with the clutch kit or are they available at regular auto parts stores or are they even necessary?

THANKS!

even with your a/c removed you still have that god awefull dual mass flywheel. so you need the kit for A/C

Aha, so it's the flywheel that's at fault... Got it.

And the tools? Do they come with the clutch kit? Any way around using these tools to remove and re-install the clutch? I've never been down there before, but I don't want to screw up the flywheel by removing the clutch pressure plate wrong.

Neah, not a big deal. For removing it is not such a big deal you can use an M8 bolt to lock the flywheel. The clutch pilot is used to hold the clutch disk in the center of the pressure plate so you can insert the gearbox axle inside. If it's not center you will struggle to get it in. I'm sure you can use some 17-19mm socket to center it. It has been used with success by other members of the forum.

Clutch alignment tool should come with the kit .It's usually a plastic piece.

Dinu, its too late now, I went ahead and removed the pressure plate bolts without hodling the flywheel (hopefully I didn't screw something up by turning the flywheel while trying to loosen the bolts). I couldn't find where to put the M8 bolt and since I was already under there I got anxious. Anyways, I'd like to be able to really tighten the bolts when I replace the clutch, can you tell me where to insert the M8 bolt to hold the flywheel? Did I hurt something by turning the flywheel which I assume is directly connected to the engine while I was down there?

Thanks.

Right under the starter you will see a hole that enters the flywheel housing form the enginebay. The flywheel has only one hole in it where the flywheel locking pin/m8 bolt will fit. Turn it untill the bolt slips in. You have to tighten the bolts to 120 NM or 89 ftlb. Can't do that without the flywheel locked. Keep us posted
