E36 rear shock mounts

Hi guys, my rear shock mount is making a clicking noise when driving. How hard are they to replace, is it just unbolting and replacing or is it more complex?

Should I buy the Z3 or E46 mounts to replace them?

The gold standard for stock replacements is to go with E46 Convertible/M3 Mounts (Part# 33-52-6-754-096) combined with a Z3 mounting plate (Part# 51-71-8-413-359).  Order off the part number as not all E46 mounts are the same, and the part listed was a BMW redesign to deal with chronic failure of rear mounts.  The mounting plate is also a good idea, especially in older cars, as it is designed to prevent sheet metal from ripping by spreading out the load of the two mounting bolts.  Just google the part # and a Pelican Parts tech article should come up.

FYI - I replaced my rear shock mounts about 2 years ago with the recommended E30 convertible mounts - these are apparently more robust.  Sadly the predictable clunk set in and I last weekend I pulled them out and replaced them with the upgraded part I listed above (although I went with the Lemfoerder equivalent, not the Meyle).  The rubber was cracked in a perfect circle right around the metal insert.
