Violent Shaking in Reverse
« on: February 24, 2010, 12:30:19 PM »
Everytime I put the car in reverse, it seems that something in the driveline starts shaking extremely hard. Does anyone have this issue?

Guibo is about 2 months old; tranny mounts look a little tired...could that be the culprit?

Check your rear subframe and diff bushings too.  Worn transmission/engine/diff mounts can do all sorts of odd things.

Your driveshaft might need a rebuild.  Is there red rust around the U-joints?

Negative, it looks pretty good. CSB was also repaced when I did the guibo as well.

Nope, one of them is split in half while the other is close. Of course I'm going to replace them but I was wondering if there were other people here with the same issue or if they know what causes it.

The differential mount looks good but the rear swaybar bushings look shot. Dunno if that has anything to do with it...

i changed the differential bushing and it improved some, although the new bushing was a two piece poly affair and i don't like the fit. i'll go back to stock one of these days. I've changed motor mounts, new driveshaft, guibo, csb, subframe and trailing arm bushings also. transmission bushings look ok. haven't looked at the shock mounts yet but they're next along with the swaybar. i will let you know if i ever get it. how about you? have you figured it out yet?

Wondering what the outcome was of this. Having the same problem. Sometimes it starts to shake violently in reverse, and in first after lots of clutch-in and clutch-outs in traffic.

Only seems to happen once in a while.

well, you're the third person who has a car with this problem. I did the rear shock mounts but the shuddering, juddering problem persists. only happens when starting out in reverse or first with light application of gas. if i give it more throttle when starting out it doesn't happen. Lately i've been thinking it may be in the differential or axle shafts. but, then again, what do i know?

^^^bmx'er...not the usual collection of cars...seems most people decide their poison early & stick with it...how do you decide what to ride?

Back to the trouble:
I wonder if it's a clutch-related problem?  Maybe some air in the lines or a tired slave isn't pulling the pressure plate off the clutch plate?  Or they're sticking together?  That would suck to check though.  I hate pulling transmissions.
