Very strange idle problem - Movies.

Today I bought myself a carburator cleaner and thought about trying this method to check for vacum leaks AGAIN, and found some great plastic vacum tubes that will remove any doubt. Also bougth all the gaskets brand new and oem to replace because when I swapped the engine the mechanics put some no name gaskets. I sprayed it all over piece by piece, and found some vacum leaks in the back od the intake, somewhere under, didn't quite know what was it. I suspected the ICV tube that goes to the rubber tube after the MAF.

That being said I started taking the intake apart and guess what. You won't believe this. The intake is secured on the block with two rows of bolts, superior and inferior. The two inferior bolts, have each a guide, a cylinder to help the intake sit better.
Guess what they did? Put both the guides on the same bolt the one betw cyl 3 and 4. One guide on the head and one on the intake and then sqeezed it. Imagine what i found there. Took me 2 and a half hours to get it out without damaging the head or intake.

I believe that the only time I can be sure that something has been done correctly to this car is when I'm going to do it myself.

So I believe part of the idle problems are coming from that direction. Did not put it back yet, because I decided to also change the solenoid switch, it always caused me problems in summer. So tommorow I hope to reassemble it back together and come up with some good news.

Regards,
Dinu

Victory! That was it. The infamous vacum leak. A huge one in this case. The car started up on the first crank and now runs like a charm. Very happy with my work.

Dropped in the Vectra 2.5V6 injectors. The car is much smoother and the engine runs a lot more quiet with this upgrade.

Next is the shifter.

Good luck with your cars and thanks everyone for your help! Great m42 minds as always!

So this is what caused my vacum leak that had the effect that you can see in the videos in the first post.

Sorry about the quality, but the camera just wouldn't focus right and I wasn't in the necessary mood to discover how to... after having just seen the view in front of my eyes.

Conclusion

As many have said inhere, one of the main causes of the idle problem is the vacum leak. The solution , the best way to discover it, after having tried everything is the brakecleaner spray method. Spray each hose and each seal one by one until the engine revs a little. if it does it is obvious you have a vacum leak.

Good luck!
