Steering Knuckle Check
« on: February 11, 2010, 10:45:48 PM »
I pulled out my old leaky rack today, damn that was a tough job. I can't imagine how hard it will be to put the new one back in! Not looking forward to that.

So when I bought my new(er) rack it came with a knuckle that doesn't fit my car. But I did notice that the rubber connector on that knuckle is WAY stiffer than on mine that I took out. Mine flexes without putting much pressure on it. I'd say it can flex about 20 degrees with my bare hands and not even using all of my strenght. The other one (that I think came off an 88 non airbag e-30) barely flexes when I put all my strength to it.

Is this normal or do I need another knuckle. They're $168 though and I'd rather not spend that much money on such a simple part. I definitely want my steering to be tighter after replacing the rack, I wonder if this affects the driveability like when ball joints are loose or bushings get old.

Thanks!
