VAC Motorsports sells a kit...check it out

http://store.nexternal.com/vacmotors/stroker-kit-c153.aspx

Not sure if the 1.8L kit goes with M42 but something to start you in the right direction.

Yeah I looked that over. While it states BMW this and BMW that, the 4AG is referenced. The 4AGE and 4AGZE are Toyota motors from the 80's. So I don't trust that link info. You should call VAC instead.

There are so many factors to look at when building a stroker motor. Everything from intake to cams to rev limit to exhaust. It all plays a role in the complete motor idea. Some  are compression and what type of tuning are you going to use, AFM, MAF, MAP or Alpha N with a custom chip or stand alone system. Street car/track car on pump gas or track car on race gas. Custom pistons and rods or other sources that will work without going new/custom.

To date I don't know of any kit that is available for the M42. Many people have done so many different combinations of components. You can definitely fit a lot of stock BMW parts from other models in our motors as well as parts intended for other car manufacturers. I have personally done both.  You can learn so much from getting all the information and figuring out what will work:-)

While planning my motor I had thought everything through several times making sure that is the best possible direction for me. Custom cams were a must for me. Porting was another one since the power is in the head. Stand alone management to handle the Alpha N and MAP blending with added compression along with an E30M3 exhaust system to get all that flow out of the motor. The valve train has been lightened with 33mm lifters, beehive springs, and 6mm valve stem valves. Pistons were cut and pocketed and dished to match cams and change in stroke along with getting the proper compression. The other major one is if you go the M47 crank route, you'll need to turn down the nose as well as cut a second keyway.  I also lightened my crank at the same time. Everything that was touched was either lightened or improved upon. You can go with other avenues and just change pistons or pistons and crank and rods. Many many variables according to what your budget is.

I have no idea how much power this motor will make but I will do a complete write up as soon as it's up and running which will be really soon.

Cheers,
~Ralph

PS Anyone in the NJ Shore area is welcome to come and take a ride when it's all finished.  Should be a blast!
