Ambien left me with a hangover, if it does you try lunesta. These hypnotics effect people differently so if one doesn't sit well with you try another. Ask for a few samples of each before you commit to a full prescription. Good luck

I loved the Ambien, but of course the effects may vary. The hardest part was trying to do anything at all about 30 min after taking the pill. It feels ways worse than being drunk. Especially when I would have to get up and take the puppy to the bathroom at 3am. I have 30 stairs going from the yard to the house. I can't tell you how hard it was to walk those things while on a sleeping pill.

I've had insomnia here and there. My main problem is not being able to get restful sleep. I've had the problem for somewhere around four-or-five years. For the past four months, I've noticed I developed a slight case of tinnitus. Recently, I've been able to over come this using a couple of methods.

1. Ambient sound
2. Being awaken softly
3. Dark room

On number one, I have a playlist on my ipod that is just one mp3 of rain with light thunder. I loop this through the night. I don't notice the ringing in my ears with this, and it helps to drown out any background noise that might occur during the night (i'm a stone 's throw away from a busy street).

This leads to number two. Being awoken abruptly in the morning leaves me feeling groggy and as though I could continue to sleep for another four hours. Not to mention it makes my mood pretty assholish. So there is an alarm app on my ipod that I use. It will slowly increase the volume of the alarm over a specified amount of time. I have it set to two minutes for full volume.

Lastly, number three. You need a completely dark room for you to enter deep sleep. The littlest light will cause your brain to begin sending neural signal to awaken. (This is mainly due to the sensitivity of our eyes.) I've eliminated most of the lights/leds in my bedroom. I'll use a combination of socks and quarters to cover them. (Quarters for the LEDs on my laptop, if I have to keep it on during the night.) Socks for the bigger LED bars or what not. I try to turn off what I can. Then, the main source of light: your windows. Buy some thick curtains that will render your room pitch black.

To give you an idea of how much this has helped me with sleep... Before I began following this regiment, I scarcely remember when the last time I dreamed during sleep. Now that I have been doing this, I'm having on average at least two different dreams, sometimes three, during the night. The dreams tend to be fairly long, too. This means I'm entering REM sleep for a longer period of time, and multiple times a night. And before? No dreams? Means I barely got any REM sleep. Maybe a minute of it.

It's not a matter of how much sleep you get. I used to get 10 or 12 hours of sleep and wake up feeling like I could sleep another six. The critical factor is how much REM sleep you get. If you only sleep five (maybe six) hours a night, but you get a combined total of more than 90 mins REM, you're good. The more REM, the better. (I've also read that doing a lot of cardio helps the body enter REM faster.)

I will agree with the drug enduced sleep bit. The best sleep i had in a long while was when I got stoned off my ass with a friend. I can't remember if we were drinking much, probably. That night was on par with sleeping up at an old lodge on a ski mountain during winter. Hardly any street lights to beam light into the windows, it was cold as heck, and ABSOLUTELY quiet. However, that was back when I didn't have tinnitus. :(

Try stretching for about 30mins before going to bed. I mean full body stretching and holding each stretch for 20 seconds. I did that one time when I was stressed out, and I had a feeling I wasn't going to sleep well. I really helped. Fell asleep quick.

The key to ambient background sounds is that they are relatively level, in that they don't change in rhythm and intensity too greatly. Music is the worst thing to listen to during sleep, as the sound varies too greatly and actually disturbs your sleep.

Maybe drinking peppermint tea before going to bed?

I forgot to mention. If the A/C unit is in your room where you sleep, it might not be the best thing. Having a huge motor kick on every 20 mins or so does nothing to help you sleep. Sounds like there is too much going on in the bedroom for you to sleep well. Do you have a garage? Know someone with a spare mattress? Find a place that is quiet and test it out.

You might try ear plugs. I can't stand the generic foam ones, and the wax ones annoy me. There are ear specialists that can create custom molded ear plugs. Haven't gotten around to doing mine.

If you determine that absolute quiet is necessary, might look into building a box/baffle to quiet down the cpap device and an alternative to the AC. West virginia is cold right now. Are you using AC to dehumidify the room?

i've had insomnia since i was a little kid
it's hard to diagnose what yours is caused by. there's no single fix either
if you don't exercise at least 20-30mins a day you're not helping things.

but if you need drugs, go to the vitamin section and buy some melatonin. i think 3mg is the norm and even broken into a bunch of smaller pieces it is just as powerful. don't get dependent on it but a few weeks is fine. much less dangerous than lunesta or ambien, not to mention cheaper than those or rozerem. avoid the pseudo-science of psychiatry like the plague.

if you go to bed at or before midnight and still don't feel tired, or even feel buzzed and not from caffeine, it could be your melatonin levels being decreased from fluorescent lighting. those curly energy efficient bulbs work like caffeine on me before bed, so i try to avoid them in favor of yellow lighting. blue leds would be the worst, if your laptop or pc has got em cover them up, and avoid the computer all together 20mins before bed.

FYI, melatonin isn't just a hormone that makes you feel sleepy, it helps you put problems & back memories behind you. if you can't sleep because you have a lot of stress & regrets on your mind, ironically it's because you're not sleeping enough. a perceptual cycle can develop.. so try to get your deep sleep. watch some comedy to get into a carefree mood, then do a bunch of pushups or any exhausting workout that isn't aerobic, and hit the sack.

Does anyone here use Bochs?

I would like to write a short setup guide for some task with Bochs installing some specific operating system in the emulated machine in the same style as what we already have on the site VERY SIMPLE INSTRUCTIONS.

But Bochs seems very complicated.  Anyone here had any luck?

I tried to set up Bochs to run Rhapsody DR2 using a tutorial I found.  Bochs main problem at the time is slow speed due to its complete machine emulation.  It has gone through some speed boosts since then though.
