Help from 1991 318is (USA) Owners
« on: January 30, 2010, 06:08:07 PM »
Hey guys,

I am the fourth owner of a 1991 318is.  It appears the car suffered an impact at the right front corner.  I thought the front bumper was uneven, but it's actually a small divot in the body.  Also, there are parts missing from the right side that are present on the left side.  I'm having problems tracking one of them down...

On the left side, I have a black plastic headlight cover.  (See attached pic.)  It is one piece but has two part numbers: 51711965245 and 51711965243.  I ran a cross-reference for both part numbers on realoem.com.  http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=51711965245&showus=1&showeur=&details=1 and http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partxref.do?part=51711965243&showus=1&showeur=&details=1  So, according to RealOEM.com, my car has neither a left nor right headlight cover.

If you have a 1991 318is, I would appreciate it if you could let me know whether your car has a left and right headlight cover and what the part number is for the right-hand one.   Thanks.

You mean the black rear covers?  I have a few different models, one looks like the eta with a removable snorkel for the air intake.  The 325i and 318i share the other one, with a hose going through it IIRC.  I'll check later tonight for part numbers.  I tried to insert pics too, but now I host them out on Photobucket.

I'll sell you one from a 325is if the part numbers match...but after postage it'd likely be cheaper to grab one at a local pick-n-pull.

Do you have a 1991 318is with a cover for the right side?  If you have an extra, I just need that.  What's the part# btw?

They aren't worth anything unless I can confirm they came stock on a 1991 318is.

They are probably a very universal part for the E30. Maybe he can post a pic and you can see if it looks like the stock piece. That sounds like a plan.

here is a link to a pic of our engine bay. If you look at the bottom right corner of the pic you can see that there is a plastic piece.

they are the same part. take my word for it. 318i/318is 99% or parts interchange between the 2 minus the drive shaft. check the part number for a 1991 318i and 318is. same part number. same as headlight assembly. same parts.
