anyone got a part number for the VW solid lifters that fits the m42? i know euro s50 lifters will swap in but not so common on this side of the pond. i was told the 84 vw rabbits and gti's had solid lifters. any help is much abligied.

S50 lifters is biger 37mm

The VW solids are the same bore, but they have top shims. The shims depart and ruin the head often at high revs. For operation under 8000, the techtonics light weight hydro lifters work well. The solids also are about 8-10mm shorter plunger depth than the hydro lifters.
Check out "Alfa" lifters, with inverted shims, buckets etc.

im trying to get away from hydro lifters. im turning 7700 as it is. hydro's are shit above 7k. i need solids. if i cant find ready made ones ill have 16 machined to catcams specs. my new cams are too radical for hydro lifters. id like to get them fitted sometime this century lol

The Eurospec lifters (as per the photo above) are for shim under set up.

Interesting. What's the spec on the cams? Are they reground stock cams or blanks?

welded up and reground. 286's pretty hot cams. most of the shrick's are around 256 or so.
the m42 build may be put on the back burner while im building the m10. i may go totaly nut on the m42 build and bore and stroke it. itb's or a dual tb setup and stand alone managment.

Hi,my goal is 7000rpm.Would like the redline to be @ 7200.
So the VW hydro lifters help,OK.I would like to use them with
E36 6MM valves.With good oil pump should be OK.

I get 7500 out of the VW hydro. On our race VWs.
The M 42 has lighter valves and should not have any problems at 7200 with the stock or VW lifters. IMHO. MM

I agree with running the stock ones to 7000-7200rpm with no issues. I have a friend who runs 7500rpm all day long on his stock motor at the track with a DASC. I plan on running my stroker there too. Most of the E36M3 racers also run that rpm in their respective classes where solid lifters are not allowed.

So lifters are not a problem to access the 6 to 7K powerband?!
Valves lift and N close without "floating".I'm still interest in putting
lighter valvetrain pieces.And I want E36 6mm valves.

with a mark D chip it turns 7100 easy...
solids arent really that needed till much higher RPMS but u gotta think to turn high RPMs u would also need stiffer valve springs..
