M-Tech II Steering wheel
« on: January 21, 2010, 08:50:13 PM »
The guy I bought my 318is from has offered to sell me his M-Tech II steering wheel (which was installed in my 318is before I bought it)  He wants $250 for it, and its in pretty good shape.  He may also throw in his M shift knob since his new e30 is an automatic.   I did like the way the wheel looked in the car.  Its much more attractive than the big bulky airbag wheel.

A few questions though... what is a good price for a good condition M-Tech II wheel?   Is $250 too much? too little?  Also, I have a pair of new lower control arms that he wants, so what might be a fair money offer with the control arms for the wheel?  (they are FCP Groton? or something like that)

And also... safety wise... since the airbag in this car is a fairly early generation airbag, is it much safer than no airbag at all?

Thanks!

You can buy a new one for $400, so I'd that between $200 to $250 is fair depending on the condition. I was going to list mine for $250 shipped, it's in really good condition.

I ended up buying it and an M shifter from the guy.  Apparantly he bought the wheel brand new from our dealership!   Its in perfect shape.  My only gripe is that its a bit close to the stalks, but I've heard they can be swapped for a non airbag car's stalks to fix that.  The M shifter helped a lot too since its about a half inch shorter than the original knob.  Theres a pic below, but the car is horribly dirty!  And night-time flash shots are always bad.  Not to mention my knee panel isn't installed...

Old..

I swapped non-airbag stalks when I deleted my airbag...perfect fit.  I have a spare set if you need some, but I'd have to test them out first...not sure how well they work.

I had to put spacers on either side of the wheel retaining nut, how did yours fit?

The guy I bought it from gave me an extra spacer to put behind the nut.  It fit perfectly!  Let me know how much you want for the non-airbag stalks!  While its not too annoying, I do find that I accidentally turn on the wipers a lot!

Do you want the cruise setup too?  It'll need an e36 M42 or M44 actuator cable but is otherwise complete.

How much would you want for the cruise setup, the stalks and that bad clock you mentioned?  (its tax return time.... so its time to dump money into the 318!)
