Will MINI wheels work on our cars
« on: January 21, 2010, 08:11:14 PM »
I have a friend who just traded in his MINI and kept the after market wheels he had been running.  He offered to give them to me if they would work on my 318.  I know they have the correct bolt pattern, four by one hundred, but what about the offset?  Has anyone done 17 inch MINI wheels?  How much spacer would I need?  What's a good source for the spacers?

thanks,

dog

if you run a H&R 15mm spacers and 43mm (or 45mm) studs on each hub from hmsmotorsports.com you'll be able to mate them up fine... that's what I did for mine

Aren't Mini's hub bores smaller than E30's?

E30's are 57.1mm and Mini's are 56.1mm IIRC

I've done some research and here's what I've found:

MINI does use a hub centric stock rim with a hub diameter of 56.1mm
Our cars use a hub centric rim with a hub diameter of 57mm
To use a STOCK MINI wheel, it must be machined out to fit.
After market rims usually come with a 62mm hub center and use centering rings to make them fit various brands.
These are SSR Super Comp rims with the 62mm hub centers.  I will need to use a centering ring for the e30 along with the 15 to 18mm spacer to correct the offset.
It's doable, I just don't know if I want to have to buy 17 inch tires.

SSRs are nice; I say get them. As far as tires, 17" are pretty common so you shouldn't have a problem finding a good tire at a decent price.
