E30 M42 head on E36 m42?
« on: January 15, 2010, 03:09:21 PM »
Will it work? Because my E36 M42 head is fucked because of a broken plug. Should I keep the valve stem from the E36 and put it on the E30 head?

the spark plug thread has become part of the head, the tap is stuck in there. only way to get out the thread part of the head is with a hammer and that will damage the head so i'll have to buy a new head.

Take the head to a shop an have them pull it. You can get at it pretty well from the bottom of it.

To answer your question, yes it will work.

I still can't believe the shop got a tap stuck in there. Why not helicoil it? I'm just trying to think of cheaper options for you.

because for them to remove it they have to hammer the thread out which will damage the head. I know men this car has been nothing but trouble but once its fixed it will run as good as new if not better.

Why would they need to hammer the thread out?  How will they damage the head? What are they using, a sledge-hammer? It sounds like their either too lazy to bothe with it, or they're jerking you around. I'd just go get your head back.

Just drill it all out and helicoil it.
