help with brake light out
« on: January 14, 2010, 06:46:25 PM »
the bulb works fine when the head lights are on but when the brake is applied only the drivers side light goes out. all of the other brake lights work fine. I tried moving things around and I noticed that there was water that collected in the lens itself. could something have shorted out? im not sure what would cause this problem. could the cover that holds the bulbs be bad?

Sound like a short to me...Check for cracks in the lenses and the rubber seal on the tail itself...

Corrosion in the socket?  That's a two-way bulb, isn't it?

I had the same trouble with turn signals...mine was a corroded socket too, behind the front bumper.

I'll still bet on a corroded socket.  Keep an eye on it; I did the same thing on mine.  The tail light seal leaks, trunk gasket loosens or the body seam rusts & lets water down into the light.  Putting a new bulb in will sometimes remove enough corrosion to make it work.
