engine whine

Just picked up another M42 powered E30. It was a blind purchase, but we'll see how much of a gamble it was.

I knew the car had the head replaced and new timing gear associated. Once it arrived, it was started and runs great, but has a whine noise. At first we thought it's one of the accessories, but it seems to now to be the timing chain.

After a search here, it seems this is maybe because it's new timing equip. I'm going to swap to another new tensioner anyway and see if that helps.
Motor seems pretty strong, and the body is sound. If this is a worthwhile platform, I'm planning on making it a spring summer DD/weekend autox, DS machine.

Normal, whine is associated most likely with the timing components. I'm sure they are slightly different to the factory components hence the whine. Don't bother with another tensioner, noise is still there. Alot of people on this forum have asked about this after changing their timing chain and sprockets and no one has found a solution to this.

Great, thats what I keep reading too. I'm hoping it at least gets less after running awhile and wears in. The mechanic that did the work said to drive a good 1500 miles on it and should get less.  Motor is plenty strong for the moment.

Going to start transformation of parts to fit into our style of driving matching whats been done to the others.

Anyone else have input to the whine with newer timing components?
