oil in air intake

I replaced my air intake the other week, my car stumbles after starting, and I found oil in the intake-what does this mean? Also, I want to replace the manifold gasket in case I have a vacuum leak-Is there a good DIY anywhere? I have an E30 1991 318is.... The E36 DIY doesn't match-up....

Mine has oil too, it's apparently pretty typical on high mileage cars.  Vacuum leaks will make it worse, and crust up the lower intake too.  New hoses might help, some other culprits are the o-rings on the oil dipstick and the seal on the oil fill cap.  I've heard that a fuel filter on the cam cover hose will cut down on oil vapor getting into the intake bellows.

My engine runs a little cold-blooded too, I have to baby it for a mile or two until she feels like going.  A COP kit & semi-synth oil helped a bit.

An oil catch can will help too. It filters out the oil from being recirculated into the intake and there are some pretty good DIY to make one yourself out there. Here's a link.
