Tail light question...
« on: December 28, 2009, 03:03:07 PM »
Is there a reason why no one on this board, or the Internet for that matter, has the middle tail light section? It looks just like if it was part of the tail light assembly, same color and everything. Do you guys take it off? Paint it? It's the part the rear license plate sits on. Wish I had a picture to show you guys...

That was a US aftermarket add-on from what I remember, it's relatively rare.  BMW might have produced it OEM.  There is another version that has a 'flatter' appearance.  Great rust trap IIRC.

IIRC, there are two OE versions - red reflective and black. Both pretty rare, red more so.

I don't care for the look, myself.

I'll give you a dollar.

Take a look at the back, make sure there is a BMW part number on it...

On the other e30 board, they had a discussion on this part. Nobody liked it as it took away from the rear end. It was aftermarket and not BMW. Only refelctived material with no bulbs.

You might be able to get rid of it for under $10, and is stretching it.
