Author Topic: starting issue after replacing vacuum lines (Read 3631 times)

So i replaced all my vacuum lines double checked everything before putting the intake manifold back on and started my car up and it idled much better and smoother than it has since ive owned the car, which i expected but shortly after it all went wrong. I turned it off then went back out a few minutes later to start it up and now it only runs if im applying the gas (dies if i let off of it completely) and im smelling something coming from the front of the car, like gasoline and i hear a hissing sound i checked the lines running into the icv they're secure from what i could feel under the manifold nothing else was loose im wondering if theres anything else that could be causing this problem?

car is an e30 1991 318i m42

where does the hissing sound come from? chances are your problem's the hiss...

Gonna take it apart again and look a everything after work today also gonna clean my throttle body up real good which is something that was dumb not to do anyway it's most likely some little thing I missed I'll try to get a video up if none of this fixes the proble

Did you replace all the vacuum lines by the book or did you follow the mess under the intake tread?

This happened to me and it was one of the short fuel lines I replaced. I just hadn't tightened the hose clamp enough.

I kept it all how it was stock no deletes.
Just got done taking it apart again, everything was attached securely, I cleaned everything up real good, something I should have done the first time. I did notice the little tiny hose that goes into the back left part of the throttle body had a huge rip in it I guess I did that trying to get it reatached so I'm gonna need to replace that, for the time being I taped it up tight tomorrow I'll try to start her up again and update

'Eh... I'd re-work that mess under the intake. Follow yonder thread. You don't "have" to delete anything beyond the stupidity. Tidies it up and makes it much easier to get around under there. It's nearly 22 degree's outside right now and when the sun comes up (hahahaha) I'll be out there getting rid of most of it myself.

I also wouldn't run much or far with anything taped. The PO of my car was a super bone head and duct taped the elbow from the main coolant hose -> head between cyl. #2 and #3. Leaked like a... well, leak.

Just went over the mess under the intake thread. So basicly just one new line from the coolant line to the head to get rid of all the stupid heater plate mess then a vacuum line from the left of the valve cover to the boot and from the other side of the boot to the icv and im good to go. Think ill definately be looking into doing this today working around with all those hoses is ridiculous.

Did you check the hose to the fuel pressure regulator? It's unlikely but possible.

Good news! Just got done getting rid of the heater plate, followed the mess under the intake thread. Started my car up and she ran great idled steady just under 1k. Its 28 degrees outside usually this would cause my car to barely run but not anymore

So glad I got that all settled I guess i just had a leak somewhere that i had missed before much better only having a couple lines to worry about.
