Author Topic: ICV wrong direction? (Read 5038 times)

im replacing the ICV hoses and mani gasket/TB gasket tomorrow. when looking at the ICV in prep for the work ahead, i happen to look at the arrow. I remember reading somewhere that the arrow should face the front of the car? As you can see, it clearly shows that arrow towards the firewall of the car. I just got this car and am VERY new to BMW. Ive been searching to see what is causing my start up rpm fluctuation. Just need to be sure so i put things back the way they were meant to be. Perhaps the service place that worked on this car in years past put it back the wrong way?

If so, this may be part of the problem with this car? The RPM's only do this on start up and quits, literally, within 10sec. I plan on cleaning it while im at it with carb cleaner

failed to mention that this is a e36, 1993 318i.......

Arrow points along with air flow. So it'll point at the intake manifold. Looks like in your e36 it'd end up toward the firewall. I have an e30, so I can't take a pic for you.

Glad you're new to Bimmers. We need some more fans. Seriously, they're just like every other car, 'cept they're more fun & last far longer. I just flipped 271K miles.

Im hoping its just a vacuum leak, i can see a crack along one of them under the manifold. Had to see if it was a combo of things.

I am enjoying this car so far. Got it two weeks ago. I have a front pair of M3 bilsteins with ground controls(375lb springs) on them along with some rear M3 springs for the car. cant wait to feel it after that. Just waiting to get rear shocks and new mounting tops to get this all together.

Any cracks at all, replace it. I'd replace them all & do the vac hose delete mod. It's pretty easy & well documented for the e30, might be a few more hoses in the e36...I'm not sure. I've heard great things about the Bilsteins (not sure about the M-Tech ones), let us know how they are with the GC springs.
