okay i have a 1991 318i m42 engine. When the time was warm the car starts up right away, the battery is good. now it is 36 deg. and when i try to start to the car it would take about 5 seconds before it starts. it behaved as if the battery is low cause it makes a low sound when its turning over and eventually become loud and turns over. even after the car is started and running for a while, switch it off and try to start again, it is the same thing. plz note the car starts everytime.

If the battery checks out at 12v+ then I am thinking starter or ignition switch? Not sure why it would be temperature sensitive though...

yea its weird but idk what the issue is... is there a wy to troubleshoot this?

Take the battery to a parts store for a load test. A marginal battery will work fine when it's warm but fail when it's cold. There is really no way to fully test a battery without high amp loads & volt meter.

Also check for heavy condensation on the battery (that can slowly drain the battery by shorting it to ground) or corrosion on the terminals.

respect Dave, i did just that and apparently with load and stuff autozone said it was the battery so i replaced it and problem solved.
