i done that once at home...
80g the hydros
22g the retainer and the keeper
60g the springs
60g intake valves
54g outlet valves
its only more or less... the scale was very imprecise!

GREAT! THANKS!

Do you know the weight of inner and outer valve spring alone?

Was the hydro filled with oil when you were wheighing it?

E30 and early E36 (7 mm stem)

intake valve: 58 g
inner spring: 15 g
outer spring: 48 g
retainer: 17 g
lifter: 73 g (measured by me)
TOTAL: 211 g

E36 late (6 mm valve stem)

intake valve: 47 g
inner spring: -
outer spring: 51 g
retainer: 11 g
lifter: 60 g (measured by me)
TOTAL: 169 g

E36 late FTW :D

To be more accurate about effective valve train mass, valve spring weights should be counted as half of their real weight and hydro lifters should have some 10-20 g of mass added due oil.

As far as I know you should use 1/3 of valve spring mass. At least that's what I found in books.

Could very well be 1/3 only, I guestimated 1/2 by myself since I thought it cannot be 1/1 because not all of the spring mass is moving up and down like valve for instance :)
