I am in the middle of replacing myu headgasket, I have the timing covers and chain removed as well as the cam sprockets.

I currently have the head tq'd to the block and the head is a TDC with both Cam lobes for cyl. #1 pointing in.

My problem is setting the block at TDC, I pulled the spark plugs, and placed a extention in cyl #1 so that I can watch the piston go up and down. No matter what I do when the cyl is at the top I cannot get the TDC pin in. I know that this totally has to be perfect or the cam timing will be off when I put it back together.

Does anyone have any ideas of how this problem can be solved. No matter how many rotation of the crank, I cannot get the TDC pin in to put the timing chain back on the sprocket.

I think I figured it out.. I''ll keep my fingers crossed and report back.

Im getting ready to hit this process myself, please do reply back. Got the head ready to put on, my old one was cracked have to put a new one on, let me know how it goes. good luck!

Nice good to hear. I ended up just sticking an extention in cyl 1 and then rotating the crank until it was at the top not moving or or down. I also made sure that the waldorff key was facing straight up, and both cam lobes for cyl pointed in.
