Author Topic: Engine feels sluggish (Read 5340 times)

So I decided to perform a full tune-up, and was wondering what I'm missing:
- O2
- air & fuel filter
- plugs
- wires (if the budget allows)

I also found someone talking about:
- cleaning(?) the air intake system
- replacing the ICV (my idle's perfect though, always stays around 800)
- replacing the notoriously bad vacuum lines (what is so notorious about them?)

- Differential oil
- V belts

Wouldn't change the plug wires or ICV unless needed.

Rubber vacuum lines deteriorate with age and heat and allow vacuum to leak usually causing poor quality idle and rough running. Definately worth having a look at.

The oil and filter are already changed, first thing I did when bought the car. Plugs, V-belts and air filter are now changed too. Will look into the vacuum lines. Is the O2 worth changing or is it only good to diminish fuel consumption?

It is only good if the car hasn't had one in awhile, and I think they can help with mileage, emissions, and keeping the engine fron running too rich or too lean.

I believe if your CO2 sensor isn't working your motor will run in default mode (run rich).It is an important piece of the overall fuel and ignition system.They all work together.

I believe that is supposed to read O2 sensor, since I don't believe we have carbon dioxide sensors on these cars... although the day is surely coming, thanks to CARB!

It is located on your exhaust pipe near the middle of the tranny. As for testing it, if it is totally bad, you're cel will come one with the proper code. Worn out O2 sensors might still work but not efficiently and won't necessarily trigger a cel code. If it's the original sensor or has high miles, it's probably best to replace it if you're noticing poor mileage.

Cheap O2 sensor found HERE, interesting price compared to $100+ on every other site...

Does anyone have more info on the vacuum lines to change? Pelican sells a lot of different ones HERE.

that is a universal o2 so you have to splice some wires. if you get a OE one which is like $108 from fap99 there is no splicing. I have known of many m42s with bad o2 so it is a good thing to change.

as for the vacuum line look through your engine and find the ones with the most cracking and replace them 1st

What about this one for $80 from RockAuto? It says it's OE type sensor (#11781727451).

Not the same based on the wording.
