Question ,  when removing camshafts because they are ajustable how do you know where to align them back up ?

Make sure pistons 1 & 4 are at TDC.  If you did not lock the crank, you can use a thin rod in a spark plug hole to get them to near-perfect TDC position.  As for the cams, getting valve sets 1 & 4 at TDC is not too hard.  The lobes over cylinder 1 (front of motor) should be pointing up & toward eachother.  The backs of the cams are square.  Make a tool, or use a level to get them perfectly parallel after you have the lobes for cylinder 1 roughly pointed up & inward at eachother.  You get the idea...

do you mean the crank bolt the big one in the center?

I  didn't use heat. i just got a getto tool just like the one what bmwman used.

but it was a Cock Sucking to try every thing, but than with the tool i could get it loose:D

Don't try heating it.  The bolt is so long that it would probably not do much, for one.  Also, there are seals & a rubber ring on the pulley that would be unhappy around extreme heat.

As for my telling you to make a cam tool...this is what I meant.  It only requires a hack saw, vice, hammer & sheetmetal.  Super ghetto....


As for the crank holder...it takes a little more than that.  It could be done with just a drill press though...



Any luck so far?  I am thinking of machining some nice solid aluminum alignment tools, but am not sure if I want to spend the time lol.

Got crank bolt off did not use getto tool but about 20 secounds of fire and the came off easy with a 750 pound hammer gun . What machines are you using for machining your tools ?
