Why are there zip ties on your spark plug wires?
they are for number coordination.... well they were until i fixed the problem by switching switching 2 of them around

Just get the pinout numbers and check resistance from the DME harness to the coil harness. For example when you plug into pin #25 and you find the resistance on the other end, that will be cyl #1. Then move that to position number one as I showed in the diagram. You will also need to go to the boneyard and get the bracket to mount the coils correctly.

but whats funny is that those coils come with a cover that fits over them perfectly, its like a hard plastic shell, in the shell there is a bmw logo?

i dont know why they would make my coil pack rearanged diffrently, maybe they did this on 92, or just on 318is's, ha or maybe its from a diff bmw,

ill post back with pics on the coil cover

They didn't make yours different. One of the previous owners did that. And the parts you are looking at are correct. The have just been remounted to a different spot and the plastic cover has been removed. The reason for that is the plastic cover is molded to fit the coils when they are mounted correctly in the shape of a square as shown in my diagram. It will not work when they are inline and out of place as yours are.

Should look like this

The OP has an E36, which has the coils arranged differently than the E30 in this photo.

As pictured in the OP's photo, the coils are correct, but the wires, if stock, could be arranged in a much tidier manner.

From '94 on, BMW refined the coil setup even further, with a single input wire from the engine harness, and a smaller, integrated coil pack containing all four coils.

your intire engine setup is diffrent from mine,
my batttery is in the trunk and seems like  have more room in the engine compartment plus your hood opens backwards
you have a diffrent intake too
