blower motor housing removal HELP!!!
« on: August 26, 2011, 06:56:55 PM »
Does anyone know how to remove the blower motor housing on the e30s?  Its the only thing holding me up from replacing my wiper motor.  Bentley manual doesn't really give a good description of how to remove it.  Thanks.

The top plate is easy, just unclip the two white bands that retain it.  If it's never been done you might have to clip two smaller connector pieces between the halves of the bands.  Here's a write-up:

I hope you don't mean the lower housing...to get that out you just have to remove the four nuts that poke through from the HVAC unit.  But then you'll have to pull the dash, drain the coolant, pull the HVAC system out, etc...weekend job, that.

I have the blower motor out.  I'm trying to get the plastic housing out that holds the blower motor.  The bentley manual says I have to disengage the flaps then unclip the four retaining clips then the housing pulls right out.  It also says I need to do this to remove the windshield wiper motor and assembly which is what im trying to replace.

I managed to get mine out with the inner plenum still in place.  It wasn't easy but it can be done.  IIRC I unbolted the wiper motor from the arm mechanism through the cowl panel, then pulled the arms out last.

BTW, replacing a wiper motor has to be the worst job on an e30, worse than the gas tank or rear subframe bushings.
