Serious issues, tapping/clickin, big leak
« on: March 25, 2007, 07:48:53 AM »
Well the other day I started up my car and I hear this redickulas racket, tapping/clicking noise, it would worsen upon acceleration. I ended up putting some more oil in but the noise just got a little fainter. It did NOT go away. Then I wake up this moring and find a MASSIVE PUDDLE of oil under the car .

I will climb under there this afternoon to see where it all came from. I know for sure there is a small leak in the top to the pan, but the puddle was huge.

Anyone have some insight.

could be a profile gasket, but... pull the lower oil pan and let us know what you find...

crawled under it and it looks to be leaking from the timing case and the whole passenger front side of the pan is covered in oil.

that gasket wouldn't explain the ticking noise though?

a pretty bad leak that i had appeared to come from the timming case but later found it to be the gasket to the oil filter housing. good luck

Profile gasket deals with little oil.

Could be the front main seal or the timing chain tensioner.
There are gaskets covering the timing chain on the front, but same as the profile, they deal with only a little oil.
Otherwise, the only places really left is the head gasket (unlikely) or the gasket between the block and the timing case. (LOADS of fun!)

It could be a collapse of the timing case idler sprocket. The casting breaks just where the sprocket bolts in. I'd pull the timing case covers before you do another thing.

Well, you could always dump in a few quarts of oil and start it up...get under it & look for the source?  I'd say it is either the timing chain tensioner or the gasket between the timing case & block.  Those are the 2 big high pressure spots over on the passenger side.  GOOD LUCK!
