Pro Formance chip installed!!! VIDS, VIDS, VIDS

I did a search on ebay for pro formance and couldn't find it. Any one have a link or a seller id?

Seller id is sapporo10 but doesn't appear to be selling any for e30 318iS at the moment.

Pre-chip I almost exclusively ran my car on 98RON fuel; regular has been going around $1.20-1.35/L and the cost of 98RON is always $0.10 more than whatever regular unleaded costs.  This means that its always less than 10% extra but I noticed a decrease in fuel consumption of more than 10%.

However recently I didn't have much cash on me and I filled up with regular unleaded (knowing that the "octane rating" was going to be "minimum 91").  The ProFormance chip stated to use fuel with 91 or higher octane rating.

I noticed the car knocked at low revs under load so I researched octane ratings and found that the fuel I'm using is rated waaaay too low for the tuning of the chip.

The different octane ratings between US and Australia are that the US uses the AKI which is RON+MON/2 and Australia uses just the RON.  MON is "generally 8 to 10 less than RON" so 98+88/2 = 93/94 US octane rating.

I didn't know this at the time and hope that there hasn't been any damage.

I'd say if you make sure you NEVER use fuel less than the specified rating and you should be okay.  I'd heard all this garbage about US fuel being poorer quality than Australian fuel, obviously propagated by people who didn't realise the difference in octane rating systems between the companies which is why it never even crossed my mind that this might be the wrong fuel to put in.

I'm driving it really carefully at the moment, keeping revs higher to keep cylinder pressure down but I still get a knock every now and then.  Is this going to cause major damage?

Maybe put in a bottle of octane booster to be on the safe side???

You are not really accelerating faster with the new rear, you are just skipping a shift. It "should" feel slightly slower but get to 6 just a tad sooner. That little amount is debateable though.




As for hitting 60 in a 4:10 car in second with stock size tires (or close), unless you rev to 7200, it will simply NOT happen. It will look like it though.

One thing for you guys getting great 0-60 times, PLEASE keep in mind, your speedo is off by almost 10%. That means at 60, you are actually doing 54mph. On 195/60r14 it is exactly 10%. Do yourself a favor and get someone with a GPS and figure out exactly how far off your speedo is.

This is why we have people claiming they got a 318 up to 145mph. It simply cannot do it. With stock chip and tires the car redlines at 133mmph regardless of what your speedo says.

Grippy, you claim a 0-60 time of 7 seconds with the ecu, 7.5~ without.  That is pretty impressive regardless but it seems too fast to me...

Have you had your speedo recalibrated for the new diff and for your wheels/tires?  The diff would put you 5% lower, the speedo is already about 5% lower from the factory and tires maybe another 5%.  That means 60mph on your speedo could be just over 50mph in reality.

Not having a stab at you, but if you haven't done any recalibration then your figures don't mean much.  According to tests where 0-60mph (speedo claiming 63mph) was completed in 9.3 seconds, 50mph was reached in 6.5 seconds.

okay, i think i am about to order one of these for my car.  Dino and Thumper3ed claim the chip is worthless in an older thread, but all of the people who have it swear by its effectiveness, maybe not compared to the markD but at 35 bucks.....

Yes I bought one off sapporo a couple of years ago for my 320i (E36).

Due to the unusual DME on these he was kind enough to work back and forth until we had the right combination of power and economy.

Now that I have finally replaced my catalytic converter... OMG soo much more torque has been unleashed.

Remember. After changing the chip wait around 100 to 200 miles for the ECU to relearns.. then you will be at full power.
