This is the first M42 in a Seven which I know, maybe there are more...
To get significant power jump in a NA engine, it needs high rev... (see how the Honda VTEC does it).
- stiffer valve spring sets
- solid lifter
- high cams (Catcams seem to be good for M42, and they also have solid lifters and springs for the cams)
- high compression pistons (prefereably forged and low weight)
- strengthen and light weight con-rods.
- lightened and balanced crankshaft.
- 360 degrees thrust bearings
The list can be very very long... :p but NA power gains will not be cheap to start with..
I have a dismantle M42 in my storage, so am also thinking what to do with it...
My plan is to bore out the 84mm to 86mm while retaining the 81mm stroke... That'll brings the displacement up from 1796cc to 1883cc...
increase the CR to 11:0
valvetrain and cams are in my wishlist but needs to get the moolahs first..
Have fun modding and do keep us updated on the progress....
BTW, I've seen a photo of a lotus Elise with the M42... Anyone knows more about this other car?
