Getrag 240 manual transmission
« on: March 23, 2010, 03:45:44 PM »
Has anyone had any experience rebuilding, or even just opening up the 240 transmission im taking manual transmission and driveaxles in school and I have my beat up transmission that i want to take a part and work on..

Ive started taking it apart and ran into a problem removing the output flange lock plate and collar nut. Ive used On Demand 5 at school and it says we need special tools..(23 1 200, 23 0 020, and 23 1 210) and (33 1 150)

what tools are these, and where can i get them....
the picture shows what nut i cant remove because i dont have a socket thats thin and long enough...
Its in the middle of the pic, between the triangular thing that hooks to the drive shaft (sorry for my lack of vocabulary)

Check that link out it talks about how to modify a socket to fit the nut.

The rest is copied from the site:

Before even dreaming of starting the gearbox seal job, the correct socket for removing the output flange nut must be sourced or made. The following are the important dimensions:

30mm hex
Outside diameter = 39.0mm +/-0.5
Internal length = 70mm at a minimum diameter of 15.5mm
I used a 1/2" drive 30mm impact socket and turned it with a lathe. I then had to drill out the end to make it long enough. The pics should explain it:

and this is what it looks like taken apart.
