General Topics / prepping for track day
« on: October 12, 2007, 02:25:01 PM »
My son (325i) and I (318is) are going to a driving school/track day at the end of the month. Here's what we're doing to prep, and I appreciate any suggestions about anything else we should do;
325i
replace brake pads (pagid)
flush/replace brake fluid
the timing belt was replaced about 15k miles ago
check dif fluid level (LSD 4.10)
change oil
adjust tire pressure

318is
drop oil pan and inspect (just read about loose/missing bolts. yikes!)
replace brake pads (mintex red)
replace timing chain tensioner with new one
check dif fluid level
change oil
adjust tire pressure

the 325i has eibach springs/bilstein sport shox
the 318is has H&R springs/sport shox

missing anything?

TIA

Engine + Driveline / diesel noise at start up

haven't done a darn thing to the car since I bought it, so I am going to replace at least the tensioner. Is it adviseable to replace sprockets, guide rail, etc?
temp BTW is about 40*f,

Engine + Driveline / diesel noise at start up

my car sounds just like a diesel at start up before it warms up to operating temp. From what I've been able to research, sounds like I need to refresh the timing chain and related components. Just wondering if anyone else has heard this noise too? It goes away once the car warms up and also above 3000 rpm. Car runs like a top, btw.
