Engine has now gone 30.000 km, idle is still kind of rough but I have learnt to live with it.
My wife is now driving the car, I only loan it when my E39 gets to boring.

What brand or type of gauges are those and where did you purchase them from?  Are they all electric gauges or are some of them mechanical?

They are all electrical and the brand is something called Prosport, bought them here in Denmark at a local car aftermerket dealer, they where not that expensive.
Sure they look cool, but should I do it again would I go for the classic look instead.
Now I still got my E30 318iS, but recent years it has been my wifes car.

Hi guy, I am just back to tell you that the car is still going strong, now is has run approx. 15.000 km. with no problems at all!
Only thing that could be better is the idle, it´s a bit rough. Wondering if altering the timing of the camshaft would smooth out the idle?
Its feels like it sometimes misses a firing, has tried different plugs and new cables, last try is the coils.

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Info needed for buildup M42/M44

I am pretty sure it is not easy to get past 200 horsepower, but a lot would depend on what kind of ECU you choose, and if you ever get such power I doubt it would be a everyday driving car like mine.
Ceotto from this forum is building a very similar engine, but with special made cams, solid lifters and ITB´s. But I think he still need a lot of work before starting it.

And does the stroked bottom-end still likes to be revved beyond 7k rpm's ?
You bet it does.... Belive me, my stroked M42 revs very well af 2068 ccm with the M47 crankshaft. Been driving it for more than a year now.
Try having a look at my postings in here.
Would also like to see a link to these German strokers?

Here are some pictures of my gauges in the center consol.
I got oil pressure, oil temperature and air/fuel ratio.

Im using the stock ECU and injectors from a SAAB 900 turbo, approx. 200 cc/min.
The ECU needed some changes in the parameters, but it could run with standard settings.
The first/lowest curves shows before changes where made in the ECU.
My idle are sat a bit too high, around 1000 rpm, it could easily be dropped to 900 instead and still run smoth. (Next projekt)
These are crank numbers, you would properly get higher numbers with the higher compression ratio.
Good luck with you projekt!

Sorry for long waiting time...
But at last I´ve got the engine at a dyno, it made 177 horsepower and 210 Newton.
Have made approx. 5000 kilometers on it now and it still runs smoth.....

Engine management / Need help on triggerwheel
« on: March 06, 2008, 12:46:25 PM »
I’m starting messing with Megasquirt on my modified M42.
Having a guy building the MS for me, I’m no good with a soldering iron.:o
But he needs some info know on what angle the crank is at when the tooth sees the first missing gap or what tooth the sensor is aligned with at TDC.

So if anyone has built MS on their M42 or having an engine where they could have a look, I would be very thankful.
I found out that there’s not much space up front in the engine bay when I tired to have a look at my own trigger wheel……

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Swapping M40 to E36 DISA M42 - Step By Step
« on: December 19, 2007, 04:24:46 PM »
The box is from a E36 318iS 9/1992 Bosch number is 0 261 200 950 BMW part no 1739679. It has been tried on the engine and it will run with this box, but of course the injector timing is not correct until some changes has been made in the wiring.
About the knock sensors I simply cutted up the E36 wiring harness and pulled the wires for the sensors, clicked the pins in posistion 15 and 42 in the ECU connector.

Heres a layout of the E36 wiring, all I needed was a layout of the E30 to be sure, havent been able to find one official from BMW, thanks!

Engine harness's are almost identical, main difference are fuel injector control pins in the ECU's are oposite (on the E30:pin 32 in ECU stands for cylinders 2 and 4, pin 3 for cylinders 1 and 3, on the E36 ECU its the other way around) and offcourse - the use of pins:

May I ask where you did find the info for this?
Because I have put a E30 M42 i my car, it has knock sensors from a E36 M42 and then I have cutted up a E36 wiring harness to get the wiring for the knock sensors, so far so good....
But then I heard about the difference in the injector control pins, but havent gotten any useful info on his.

I have been running a E36 ECU on my E30 318iS, it made no faults for the short time it was mounted.
BTW, there is a few ECU´s for sale on http://www.ebay.de
