Suspension / Steering Wheel Mis-aligned
« on: August 27, 2010, 06:18:33 PM »
Hi,

The previous owner of my 91 318is had to take off the steering wheel to weld a crack in the cross member and when he re-assembled it, the steering wheel is at a quarter turn to the left when the wheels are center. Where along the links do I adjust this? Can this be done using rudimentary DIY home alignment? I'm assuming yes, since it can be fairly accurate. TIA.

Bump for cam installation process. When I install the cams, None of the Cam "Bumps" should be pushing any valves open, correct? How come they don't line up relative to each other? I know I am supposed to line 'em up relative to each other but don't know if torquing them down without the special tools might cause some bending. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Engine + Driveline / Damn M7 x 45mm Exhaust Flange Studs!
« on: June 02, 2010, 02:07:08 PM »
Thanks, PumpitUp. I went to a BMW specialist near where I live (catulpastreetgarage.com), they had 'em in stock! But I ended up paying $38 which was a ripoff still. They are identical to the ones that came out, and went in with ease. Hope this helps out people in the future.

No, according to realOEM it's M7; I also verified it. I guess I should have mentioned that this was for a '91 E30 M42. Might be different for the E36 heads.

I am having difficulty finding M7 x 45mm exhaust flange studs to bolt my header to my head, both online and in the local hardware stores. I called the stealerships and they want $55 for 12 studs and bolts, to which I kindly said "go to hell." I have managed to locate one place that has M7 x 55 and 45 mm bolts made of steel but am not sure if I cut off the bolt top that it will work. Can anyone confirm this? Do I need specifically expansion type bolts? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thanks! and Happy Memorial Day!

Engine + Driveline / these cars are frustrating
« on: May 06, 2010, 09:36:46 PM »
It's funny how I'm having a similar problem. Mine was that the car would overheat due to introduction of air into the system. Oddly enough, it doesn't leak radiator fluid.  I took apart my motor only to find the head gasket and the TCPG in good condition. I've been doing a little researching and I'm getting the impression that there is a leak somewhere.
