I can say with personal experience that you will be blown away with the outcome of your motor. The torque is insane!!!

Engine + Driveline / Throttle body coolant bypass possibility
« on: November 16, 2006, 03:51:39 PM »
I blanked those lines off and made a 6mm thermoplastic gasket to space the manifold off the head to reduce intake manifold temps. The intake manifold is alot colder than the tappet cover, even after a few hard laps...

Electrical / MAF Conversion 2.0 ...let's get this figured out
« on: September 23, 2006, 07:20:08 PM »
I was told this by my tuner, you need a bit of pipe length (ram tube) before the MAF to straighten the airflow so you get accurate readings over the hotwire sensor. If your intake length is too short/ non-existant then you will have turbulent airflow over the hotwire sensor, giving inconsistant values. ie, car idles  and runs rough.

Downsides...ummmm maybe there is a little more engine noise since there is no flapper door in there to mufle it?

You will also likely get ass mileage after this as you will want to floor it everywhere.  I am not kidding.
I was getting an extra 50km on one tank after doing my MAF conversion.

Why did you use a Ford MAF?
I used a 328i MAF on my conversion, works beautifully!

hey, thanks for turning us on to the M47 crank... your build was truly inspiring!! I used the crank and got really great results... well, at least according my my sizeable butt dyno...
Only a pleasure, glad I have been able to help out the M42 community to give those i6 boys a run for their money...

I believe in sharing info which tuning shops try keep from us. That way you can build your own motors, learning and modding along the way. Plus the money you're saving in labour costs is being put into your motor, not someone's pocket.
