General Topics / Engine Oil Surprise!
« on: September 01, 2011, 06:50:58 PM »
Before I started doing my own, my local shop used 15/40w. I think because it can be used accross the board new and old and they buy it in bulk. All I know is I HAD LEAKS. Went back to 20/50 and the leaks went away and the lifters seem quieter. I read somewhere that the lifters have a notch and thicker oil stays in said notch when the car is cold. IDK

Cleaned up the wires leading to the front fog and all is good again.

any advice or direction on where to go or how to diagnose with this multimeter?

So started blowing #23 and have now been through 2 packs of fuses during diagnosis. Red/Gray in the dash has a connector but is connected to another red/gray and continues in the harness. It is not connected to the head unit. Promise.

The plot thickens. At first I could turn on running lights and no pop. Only once I pulled the switch all the way out and turned the headlights on, did I get a pop.
Than after some pulling bulbs, inspecting connections, cleaning etc. I could pull the switch all the way out, running lights and headlights and not pop. Only when I started the car did I get a popped fuse.

Than I pulled the right license plate light only to find the the brown wire is not connected and it appears the the unprotected connector is flopping around in the fascia. BINGO I think!
So attach connector, and now the fuse blows as soon as I pull the switch to the first, running light, position.

Like I said I have tried to systematical trouble shoot this puzzle but I am tired of buying fuses as well as making things worse.

Any advice?

Off topic but how much of a PITA was it to remove the old tank. Assuming you have done so...

Engine + Driveline / Legit Vacuum Diagrams?

RealOem.com -> Select your car ->  Browse parts -> Engine -> Vacuum control

If searching for vacuum leaks, you should go get some brakecleaner and start spraying each rubber line and seal one by one. If your engine revs you know you've found it. It helped solve my problem.

realoem doesn't give the option of Vacuum Control under Engine for my VIN

Fixed!

Had the wife turn the key and smacked the fuel tank under the pump.
Now the pump is even quieter. Worked fine all day.

I just had the exact same prob.  Funny I also have the dent on the fuel tank from a missed jack stand.

Hows weather there? Cold, alot of moisture? check your spark plugs make sure there dry, then try cranking and giving a little gas.  Do for min or two.  Is fuel level low?  you can also tap on the on fuel pressure relay.

Weather has been 50's and around 30 at night. Filled it up yesterday.

For some reason I suspect fuel delivery either electrical or mechanical. I have looked at 3 different diagrams of fuse boxes and they are all different.
Can you direct me to the pump relay?
