WTB/WTT / m42 cams needed please
« on: October 11, 2021, 02:26:47 AM »

the m42 was flying over the weekend, unfortunately the exhaust cam snapped on fitting so we could only use the new inlet and the old exhaust cams and didn't get a chance to remap so wasn't getting the extra revs is should be capable of now.
If anyone has a pair of standard m42 cams for sale in the uk please message me
thanks

M44/42 itbs to give away update
Thanks to everyone who has subscribed and liked the video
I have found a fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator and throttle position sensor that will now come with the itbs. I’m still looking for some injectors which will hopefully turn up.
I have realised that I can not see who has liked the video on youtube so can you make a comment on the video so I can see who you are and when I do have a winner I can get in touch about delivery. Just leave a word or .  if you don’t want to comment. Thanks
Thanks again and sorry for the hassle but this is new to me.

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / itbs on an m44
« on: September 28, 2020, 05:24:39 PM »
i bought a pair of e36 m3 itbs and fitted them onto the m44. I had to make an airbox so the maf could be used and left the ecu as it was and it runs great. i fitted an adjustable fuel pressure regulator but that is set close to standard fuel pressure. I tried it out over the weekend and am very impressed with how it goes

i believe you need solid followers with high lift cams, on mine there was quite a bit of work needed on the cam carrier as well

the cams are standard reprofiled cams that were designed by shrigley engineering so i have no idea what profile they are, they were made for torque more than revs as i used to run a standard 328i gearbox and needed the torque to make up for the long gear changes even with the 4.4 diff. The problem was the hydraulic lifters had to be replaced with shimmed buckets which got expensive. The standard intake is supposed to be very good, my itbs are probably too big for the engine but they make all the right noises.
If you speak to Andy at shrigley engineering he knows what he is taking about and could probably profile some cams to what you want

This engine has had a hard life for the last 4 years. it has done a lot af mileage, never let me down and always been a joy to drive. i have booked it in for new higher revving camshafts, a full refresh and an oil cooler adaptor. it currently revs to 7500 but now going 8000. these engines are very underrated and i am surprised more people don't use them. https://youtu.be/jLc4c7XbvTg

i have just done this by fitting a m44 into the e30. i used the m44 rhd manifold and was surprised on how much space there was around the steering column. i do use chassis mounts for the engine as i tried the e36 engine mounts and they did not fir too well. here is a vid where it shows how much room there was. Hope this is of help https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qBQEG0JOo2U&t=100s

I have the m44 which is unmodified apart from the itbs and the m42 which has had lots done to it. with the m44 i used the m3 injectors that came with the itbs and fitted a fuel pressure regulator but it is set about where the m3 regulator would have been apart from that i made an airbox for the maf sensor to work from and it ran really well.

the car idles and drives really well. when i put the engine back into a car i will put an afr meter on on it so i can set the fuel pressure regulator to make sure it is right

the car is all new and i knew i would have a few teething problems as it was the car's first real test, unfortunately the hydraulic clutch cylinder couldn't push far enough when everything got hot meaning the clutch was useless, fortunately i can change gear without the clutch but i found out that using the handbrake wasn't a good idea.
