Engine + Driveline / Re: Horrible Bogging/idle issue

Exactly.... Mine would fall on it's face with slight pedal pressure. But when I went WOT it would accelerate. But rpm would be restricted like a clogged cat. Check all the hoses for possible vacuum leaks. Get a couple of cans of carb cleaner, thoroughly clean the ICV (Idle Control Valve). Soak it, let it set for 15 minutes or so and then do it again until you go through both cans. Make sure it is dry before putting it back on. I used compressed air to bow it out. Also give it a good tap with the handle of a hammer. Mine was a wooden ball peen. I also put clamps on all the hoses, couple had clearance probs so I used double wire ties. Hope this helps.

WTB/WTT / fuel line bracket
« on: February 25, 2015, 10:36:36 PM »
1991 318is/m42. Does anyone have a spare fuel line bracket that mounts below the lower intake manifold? Mounts to the stud below the lower intake manifold and the injector harness and clamps the fuel lines.

Thanks for the info. When it's 5 degrees out, wind chill of -13, everything seems a lot worse than it is. I basically ended up doing exactly what you suggested. Someone has replaced the voltage reg and put screws in way to long. One broke off in the alt so now I need to drill it out and find proper length screws. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Does anyone have any advise on getting the guides/sleeves out of the alternator? I've gt the bolts out but the sleeves won't allow the alternator to be removed.

Interior / cluster battery
« on: April 17, 2014, 04:26:08 PM »
I got a 91 318is. Have done lots of work on it. But the cluster is a new item for me. Got it out and replaced all the bulbs. I've read that some are replacing the battery. Were is the battery? Is it soldered on a board? Should I go ahead and replace it since I've got the cluster out?

Thanks Dave. I need to take he cluster out to look at the temp gauge (bounces around erratically). I'll then check out the odo. Appreciate your help.

This has probably been discussed before but I couldn't find a topic. My son replaced the subframe bushings on our 91 318is but he forgot to disconnect the triger on the diff. When he did notice it the connector was broken. He was able to reattach the leads. The odometer does not work. Is the trigger the driver for the odometer? Or is there a cable driven from the trans to the odometer? Checked the manual and there is not info for the odometer.
Thanks for your help.

Engine + Driveline / Re: M44 Head Gasket on M42?

That does make sense if you think about it. Probably will end up giving more accurate or true torque values if you go the 90 + 90 method. Have no idea how much difference there might be though.

I remember reading that if you are using the ARP head bolts you can step up to (I believe that it was 64ft lbs) and not have to do the 90 + 90 step. Is that not true?
