M42 Buyer's Guide / 91 318iS has some minor issues
« on: August 17, 2009, 08:24:27 AM »
Possibly a clogged heater core?

I know that any of my bimmers take more than 20 minutes to warm up the engine idling. There is alot of coolant in them. :)

If you can take it for a spin it will warm up faster

Electrical / Trunk access, dead battery
« on: July 30, 2009, 07:16:47 AM »
I am trying to get in the trunk to replace a really dead battery.

However I dont have the correct key for the trunk and the central locking system is too dead to unlock the trunk.

I tried charging it up with jump box to positive terminal in engine area, however battery is not good.

So, how can I get into the trunk?  Is there a trick to opening it otherwise?

The car does have a ski-pass...

General Topics / Oil suggestions?
« on: July 19, 2009, 12:25:09 PM »
I use dino oil, castrol GTX 20W-50 due to high mileage bc I dont want oil leaks.

That is what the previous owner used for the past 150K miles.

Prior to that the original owner used syn oil from 0 miles to 100K, but the engine seals were good then. :)

Engine + Driveline / ABS removal, what fittings??
« on: May 15, 2009, 02:22:12 PM »
I want to remove the clogged ABS pump and connect the lines for front with a T fitting and the rear to the other MC line.

What fittings and where to buy are you guys getting the fitting to connect the hard lines?

I went to Autozone and all they had were standard size and no metric T fittings.

Engine + Driveline / Bleeding brakes and clutch slave cylinder
« on: May 15, 2009, 06:56:06 AM »
Looks like a plugged circuit in the ABS for the driver side,  removed metal line at ABS and it is dry.  Attempted to pump fluid out and would not.

Removed passenger side connection at ABS and it pushed out fluid fine.

Going to remove ABS from the mix with a T fitting for front and metal line to line adapter for the rear.

Engine + Driveline / Bleeding brakes and clutch slave cylinder
« on: May 08, 2009, 01:06:54 PM »
I bleed my brakes the other day, along with the clutch.  The front driver side would not bleed.  I checked out the bleed screw, caliper and rubber line and was able to remove and blow compressed air trough them fine.

Do I need to activate the ABS to get fluid to all calipers?

Also, after bleeding the clutch the pedal has no feel to it, it is very soft and there is no reistance.

Will it get pressure when the car i started and the brake booster produces pressure from the engine pressure?

Thanks.
