General Topics / check you cooling system hoses
« on: April 27, 2009, 05:26:51 AM »
I'm just wondering, are you cleaning the hoses with anything that might react with the rubber causing it to crack?

It just seems a coincidental that 2 different supplier hoses are cracking all within the same time frame!

Engine + Driveline / lacking power @ higher revs...

I would change the plugs!

Also, check your battery is properly connected (perhaps clean the contacts) and clean out the AFM and idle control valve.

Have you checked for vacuum leaks (cracks on hoses)?
Idle control is clear of gunk?
Does it misfire?
Is the accelerator cable good i.e. not catching or twisted etc...

I presume you've changed the fuel filter too seen that you ran cleaner through it.

It could be a crank position sensor but a timing light would be the best bet to check this.

Hope this helps!

Suspension / abs coming on under normal conditions
« on: February 03, 2009, 03:09:50 AM »
A couple of things maybe be going wrong there.

There is a gear like sprocket on the inside of the 2 front wheels at the back of the brake disc's, these are used by an ABS 'skid' sensor which senses a wheel lock up at speed even at 5mph.  I had this problem where just as I pulling into a car space, the ABS clicks in and I can barely stop the car.

So just jack up the car and pull a wheel of and check that the sensor is good, clean and not damaged.  Then have a look at the gear like sprocket I mentioned, that its not clogged up with dirt or even badly corroded with rust.

Hope this helps!

Engine + Driveline / Overheating Problem

1)Upper and lower radiator hoses seem really soft all the time
and only feels hard when it overheats.

2)Radiator is really cold, i don't know if that is normal or not. How would i know if my radiator is good or bad?

3)Engine overheats if i drive about more than a mile. When it's idling it doesnt.

4)When i turn on the heater its really cold.

You must still have air locked in the system.  The main indication to this is cold air from the heater core (matrix).  Just remember that it may take 10 - 20 mins to properly bleed the system of any air.

I'm not sure if you done this yourself or has someone else done it but I'll say it anyways.

There is a bleed screw on top of the Tstat usually, this should be opened.  Also open the coolant reservoir screw cap too, top up your water now.  Turn ON your ineterior fans to full and at full heat.  Turn on your engine and keep an eye on the temperature gauge, rev the car if needs be to get the heat up.  Keep an eye then on the water level in the resovoir and keep it topped up.

Eventually water should start bubbling out of the TStat bleed screw, leave it do this for a few mins because some people have a tendency to close it now thinking the air is gone but it may not be.  Watch your temp gauage and don'ty let it go into the red.  When its clear of most air locks you should feel the heat in the interior of the car.

I hope this helps.

Engine + Driveline / engine suddenly dies-no warning HELP!
« on: January 15, 2009, 03:34:15 AM »
Might be your coil pack!!! These usually go and give the same effect or the actual distributor has finally broken.

Easy to replace and cheap too. check to see if your getting a spark to any of the plugs.
