WTB/WTT / WTB: E30 suspension
« on: February 09, 2014, 12:52:46 PM »

I have a new set of KW lowering springs, no coilovers. 2" drop, supposedly made for the M42 cars.

Supposedly? Lol can you confirm they are for an E30?

Also price shipped to 33309.

Any pictures installed on an E30?

Thanks

Looking for a used cheaper suspension as mine is pretty shot right now.

Just need something to get me by for a bit until i can afford something nicer  ;)

Would like adjustable coil overs in the front then the adjustable caps in the rear w/ shorter springs.

Let me know what you guys got!

Thanks

Well.. after taking a look at it i decided to leave it in lol… drained the gas out ran some new gas through the line to flush out any debris and called it a day  ;D

Everything is gummy inside but i doubt it will be coming loose any time soon

Folks, we have lift off! ;D

Changed the pump, jumped the relay and boom! Fuel lines blew gas was every where! Lol changed those and tried again and cranked right up!!

Only let it run for a little while though due to old oil but it ran! No AFM either  ;D :D

I don't have a lot of personal experience cleaning automobile gas tanks, but if you search the net for something to the effect of "cleaning varnish from gas tanks" you'll get a ton of hits.

A couple of things to consider about the gas tank in our car: The drain plug on the tank isn't very large and there is a crossover tube between the two tank sections. Depending on the amount of debris and rust you have may determine whether or not you have to drop the tank.

Yep i saw both the smaller drain plug and narrow cross over tube thanks. It seems pretty bad in there though when i took the fuel pump out and pulled the filter off it stuck to my hand from the varnish and took a few washes to finally get it off my hands…  :-\

I've tried out chelating rust treatments like Evaporust. They work well, but I'd bet twelve gallons or so would get pretty expensive. It also has trouble with fuel varnish.

I've lined motorcycle fuel tanks with Kreem, but that'd be pricey too. POR-15 has a great motorcycle kit, but I'm not sure how well it would work in larger tank. You'd still have to drop the tank to do it right.

New tanks aren't all that expensive compared to etching and re-lining one. Here's one for $228. I'm not recommending that tank nor vendor, just found it with a quick search. You'd still need the connector piece.

If you're close to PA I have a brand new OEM 55L fuel tank, in a box, in my garage, with the connector piece and o-ring...

Hey man.. unfortunately I'm no where close to PA but i appreciate the offer. Also not in America so anything will be pretty expensive

Looks like this is going to be fun..  :-\

Well i recently purchased a 91 318is and it had been sitting a while.

Wouldn't start, come to find out the fuel pump and relay are both bad. Pulled the fuel pump and looked down in the tank and everything looks pretty caramelised and rusty.

Is there any solution i can pour in the tank and maybe give it a rinse?? Trying to avoid dropping the whole thing which i think also requires removing the exhaust and drive shaft……  :-[

Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Okay thanks. Unfortunately I live on an island and I've been to every auto store down here and can not find the 4 pin orange bosch one. No one even has an off brand to match it up.. I will take out the fog light one and give that a try thanks for that

I can send you one for the price of postage. Let me know.

Okay thanks man. Theres a small junk yard w/ 2 E30's here i will see if he has any i can grab.. HAve been busy lately haven't had time to put the pump in and test it but will take a wack at it today.

The fuel pump relay is just a normal 4-pin Bosch 30amp relay. You can find compatible relays at most auto stores. The orange Bosch relay is optimal (has some voltage protection resistors IIRC) but for a temporary fix you can use any 4-pin relay. If it has four terminals marked 30, 85, 86, and 87 it'll work.

The wiper or fog light relay in the fuse box is good for a roadside quick fix.  The main relay has five pins, they're a bit harder to find.

Just an observation...although I am having troubles with my e30 318is...it will start and idle. If I disconnect my AFM it shuts down immediately. Granted, you might have fuel pump issues...based on my observation I am willing to bet you won't get it started without the AFM in place. Just my .02 worth. Good luck.

Cool thanks. Guess i will find one and hook it up.

Cant seem to find the relay i need anywhere though. Will put the new fuel pump in then jump the relay and see if she fires up

You're welcome. If it turns out to be a bad pump you'll have to pull the sensor out first in order to pull the rest of the assembly.

Tested the correct pump lol and still not getting any fuel. Looks like i need a fuel pump and new relay. Will change those then hopefully crank her up! If not, ill be back lol.

Thanks all for the help!

Heres a picture of how i wired the fuel pump directly to the battery

That's your fuel level sensor. Pull the other connector and with the key turned to "On" check for power: pin 2 (green/violet) is hot, pin 1 (brown) is ground.

whoops.. alright will check the other one thanks
