Engine + Driveline / performance curve
« on: September 09, 2008, 11:48:56 AM »
I'm new to the M42. Bought a 91 IS with 113k on it. Didn't even drive it before I spent a couple of weeks sorting it out, suspension brakes etc. Bought the Mark D. chip.
Car is alot of fun, great torque and throttle response up to 4000 rpm. After that the revs don't climb very fast.
Is this a characteristic of the motor? I did change to an aftermarket header but maintained the 2.25 inch diameter pipe, free flow cat and magnaflow muffler. The only reason I mention this is that the engine just seems "bottled up" after 4k rpms.
Thanks!

Engine + Driveline / just got my magnaflow

I had to shorten the straps. You could also weld/bolt a peice of flat stock across the top portion of the straps to keep the muffler at the same height and leave the straps intact.

Engine + Driveline / Ebay Full Length Header?
« on: August 15, 2008, 01:37:39 PM »
I bought and installed one. Only problem is the end is not 2.25", it's less. I just cut off the part that tapers down and installed a 2.25" pipe OVER it. Fits nice and tight.

I don't have any work on the engine done yet,but I'll change my pistons and the head bolts ,I will go with a stock head gasket,I'll change the flywheel and the clutch .The setup is:
-Volvo v70 turbo (td04-14) I think,i'm not sure if it's14 or 15
-Ebay exhaust manifold for m50,m52......,which I cut the last two cylinder
-310cc injectors
-emanage blue for spark and fuel
-2.5 inch IC piping
-volvo 740 turbo's intercooler
-custon 3 inch downpipe and exhaust

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / Turbo FAQs
« on: July 02, 2008, 04:26:04 PM »
Awesome!
What engine management are you using?
Injectors size?
Using a knock sensor?
Model of turbo?
What RPM do you start getting into boost?
Using a catch can to vent crankcase gases?
Any throttle body modification?
Has low rpm torque (sop) improved?
Thanks

Engine + Driveline / Finally Installed the LSD!

Wouldn't drive a car without one. Nothing sucks more than setting up perfectly for a corner and having the inside tire spinning uselessly and the front understeer instead of having the rear of the car nicely pivot and power out of the turn.

Engine management / NEW Jim Conforti editor released soon!
« on: July 01, 2008, 06:15:19 PM »
From what I see the user interface is non-existent. There is no way I'm going to start poking hexadecimals into an ecu. Need to see some screen shots. If it gets a "Megatune" type front end I might be interested. I've been using MS2 extra now for about six months on my rear mounted turbo stroker 325 and want for nothing. For NA stockers I'll stick with a Mark D. chip.

Engine management / Chip?
« on: July 01, 2008, 05:44:24 PM »
Kinda limited on your poll choices. Mark D's chip is my choice.
If it's just between ebay and Dinian I think the choice is obvious if you are not budget constrained

M42's have 10:1 compression. If you lowered compression how did you do it, shaved pistons, thicker HG, custom pistons? How much boost are you turbo guys running? Any head gasket issues? Anyone running megasquirt?
Might be nice to start a sticky for turbo info.
