Electrical / Car won't start - not CPS or Fuel pump
« on: June 02, 2009, 07:04:05 PM »
I know that this a little late, but I have had the exact same problem in the past, and what it was is the little power connectors that you slide onto the top of the pump where not making a complete connection. When I went over some speed bumps or drove over a bumpy road the fuel pump would cutout, especially if I was going into a car part and stopping right after it.

I would come back to the car several hours later and it would not start.
Might be something to check should you have this issue again.

already saving close to 40% of the price here in new zealand thanks guys! anyone know of whats included in a bottom end gaskets replacement kit?

Are you saying that the prices there in NZ are cheaper than BMA? or BMA are cheaper than NZ?

if you email patrick@bmaparts.com he will get back with prices which are nearly always cheaper than his website.

As for what gaskets I can't help you out.

Interior / Refitting a glovebox
« on: May 25, 2008, 07:04:24 AM »
Hey all, I am attempting to refit my glovebox which was removed by the previous owner as it needed a new lock and handle.

I have replaced those parts and I am now ready to put it back together and have a completed interior, but I am having troubles working it out.

Could someone please take a picture of the inside of their glovebox slightly pointing up so I can see the covers etc that are in there?

Thanks,

Shaun

Electrical / Help with rear demister/defogger
« on: May 25, 2008, 06:52:04 AM »
Hey all, since I got my 318is I have not had the rear demister work at all. The windows are tinted so I have a feeling nothing was hooked back up after the tinting was done.

I have searched this on multiple e30 forums and I have not found an answer. Where abouts do you plug the power cable onto the rear windscreen and what does the cable look like. I would love to get a picture of this for refference.

I have had a poke around the back, and I do not see any cable that should be plugged onto the screen or a spot on the screen with any tabs/tangs to plug onto, but I could not work out how to remove the parcel shelf to get a better look.

Can someone shed some light onto this for me?

Thanks a heap,

Shaun

Suspension / Highway car pulling problem
« on: May 17, 2008, 10:21:24 PM »
I have the same problem. Mine also happens, if i make a low speed turn in any direction, it will then pull in that direction for a while. I have a feeeling it is my power steering rack, but I am not sure.

My Suspension and steering bushes look a little old, but still look solid  but I am thinking I will probably change them as well.

« on: April 18, 2008, 11:12:38 PM »
Oh I forgot to reply to this thread and say that I worked it out after an hour of playing around with it. Got it all connected and adjusted - but the AC compressor needs to be overhauled.

Thanks anyway all.

How-To's / DIY Accessory Belt Replacement
« on: March 22, 2008, 06:09:05 AM »
Does anyone have any pictures or diagrams of how the belts should be positioned on the m42? I purchased a new car and looking at the engine today I noticed that I had no aircon belt attached, I want to do it but I am not 100% sure on where to run it. I can guess by looking at my pictures here, but it would be a massive help if I had a diagram to follow.

General Topics / Brake Stop Light Switch
« on: March 18, 2008, 05:10:58 AM »
Hey all, I just bought a 1990 318IS with a few little dramas and one is the stop light switch.

The brake lights stay on constantly and when I  feel around the brake light switch, the pedal when rully released and in its resting position is not pushing the switch in.

I have temprorary fixed this so I can drive the car without everyone beeping at me by putting two thick cable ties around the pedal so that when the pedal is not in use it pushes in the switch so that the brake lights are off.

Now the question is, is there something here to adjust this, or is this a worn out switch? Does the switch get shorted over its life span (maybe there is a spring in it that wears out?)? or do I need to find someway to adjust the pedal so its resting position is closer to the switch, although the pedal is level with the clutchand looking about normal where it is?

This is the switch I have here :

Thanks,

Swaps, Turbos, Buildups / how to e36 turbo install step by step
« on: March 08, 2008, 07:38:02 AM »
Very nice project. I look forward to reading and seeing more. I pick up my E30 318IS m42 next weekend and it has all the visual mods (Mtech 2 kit, rims) and I want to do the performance mods soon.

What sort of costs do you expect this initial setup to cost you? I know it often works out fairly expensive  to do custom work, I will have a budget of about $2500 USD do you think that this would be enough to do a turbo job on a car performing most of the work myself? or should I save longer?

Thanks for your help,

Shaun
