Off-topic discussion / My first e30/m42
« on: October 10, 2009, 10:14:00 AM »
Hey welcome to the boards and congrats on getting your first Bmw
As far as maintenence and general projects are concercened i would recomend buying this book by Wayne http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/BOOK/POR_BOOK_101pro_pg3.htm
While not an exact repair manual like haynes or chilton Wayne does a very thorugh job explaining in laymans terms step by step what you are suposed to do to fix what ever problem you have. This book can help you with just about any thing and so i would def recomend spending the 22 bucks for the book its worth every penny. If you can do just one of the repairs mentioned in the book and not have to take it to the dealership then You just Tripled the amount of money you could be saving

Suspension / need help with rubing plzzz!! im so sad!
« on: September 02, 2009, 09:36:14 PM »
Ok guys thanks for all the help so far! The offset of the rims is 35. Update on the car i got it aligned which helped a tiny bit and i got the two front fenders rolled for 160 bucks (kinda expsensive) Which helped alot but im still getting a little rubing when i go around a turn fast or have 2 or more people in the car  so what are my other options of taking care of this nasty rub! and i do mean nasty rub before i got the fenders rolled me and a buddy were taking a turn out my drive way going 10 mph and the fender lip just sat on the tire and skined it and bent my fender a little  Im thinking of going with the 225.35.17 tire would that take the rest of the rub out?? and some one mentioned the offset m3 control arms, will that offset raise the body a little? or some how help me? this suspension is turning into a nightmare ! sorry for the long post and i appreciate the continued help and support

Hey futron.sim are you sure the m90 wont be to big? If its not i am definitely going to buy one of these bad boys! i was looking at them on ebay also and their not to badly priced. Besides the supercharger and byepass valve and new belts what do you need to make it work? ?

Engine + Driveline / Adjust the cam timing on an E36 318i?
« on: March 03, 2008, 03:15:22 PM »
Are you positive? I got this information from what i thought to be a very credible resource (http://www.r3vlimited.com/Tech/318is.htm).  I have read it is the same as adding shrick cams with less then half the price. I forgot to tell you i have a port and polished head, air intake, and cat back exhaust. with those mods (-the chip) wouldnt adjusting the cam add some decent HP?? i could be wrong and so could revlimited

Engine + Driveline / Adjust the cam timing on an E36 318i?
« on: March 01, 2008, 11:17:12 AM »
Hey guys, i recently read that the E36 motor has adjustable cams, and that if taken to a specialized shop they can make adjustments for you? Also it said the ideal set up is too adjust the intake cam 5 degrees (advanced) and leave the exhaust cam alone.  Is this true? i always thought you had to get them reground or upgraded to after market ones?
Also would this mod work if i already have a jim conforti chip in?

Engine + Driveline / Crank shaft seal replacement?
« on: February 18, 2008, 05:56:30 PM »
This garage is actually honest, truthful, and fair  I found them after my last encounter with the almighty Bmw dealership. i diagnose my car and they detected a knock sensor was bad; 1200 dollars to fix it they quoted. Im not an idiot so i decided to look around i found a small shop West german bmws & audis garage that charged me 120$ and did it in a hour. :D
