A friend downloaded a whole bunch of manuals, most of which were in German. I found 1 that was useful and happen to have this info. Let me see if I can get it to you somehow. Its 106 MB, looks to be the CD portion of a repair manual. I will edit this post with a link if i can get it to you.

I had unhooked mine to clean. I also thought I had it hooked up right but it was so backwards. It took me a while to find that illustration identifying I had things improper. Best of luck!

I had a similar issue with my car post M.U.T.I. , Turned out i had the sensors hooked up wrong which really messes with how the car runs. It would idle but ran terrible until i fixed it proper and then everything worked again.

I say see what he/she wants for the car. I picked mine up for $1200 from a friend, both of us knowing it was worth much more. He knew it was going to a good home and would be taken care of. I have since replaced entire cooling system along with Mess under the hood. There is still a lot of little things to replace but you have to understand its a 23 year old car. It turns heads, is a blast to drive and everyone asks me "if you ever want to get rid of it....." I might also want to note mine has never left Arizona, rust free but most of the rubber is dry rotted. The only thing I would worry about is Rust and wreck/frame damage. Everything else can be fixed/replaced for cheap. Good luck with your search.

Engine + Driveline / Re: Mess under the intake: hose lengths

All of this hose is sold by the foot at most AutoZone, CRAP, Checker, NAPA or CarQuest. See below, its cheap and will cost about $1 foot so get extra. Take pictures and go slow.

•   5/8” Coolant Hose - sold by the foot (Get 2 Feet) you may need a 90 degree coupler for the custom bypass.
•   5/16” Fuel Hose (Make sure it is fuel INJECTION hose, not fuel hose for a carb) - Sold by the foot (get 3+ feet)
•   19/32” Vacuum Hose sold by the foot (get 2-3 feet)

Can easily be changed out in less than 1 hour or 2 beers. The biggest issue i had was the build up from the old water pipe leaking which i was able to carefully clean out. When i removed the pipe it crumbled apart. (See photo of before) I have a small leak at the head but i think that is my head gasket saying its time for a new one. Everything else is good. I lubed with WD-40 and oil.

Had similar issue after Maint. Hooked up wires wrong. See this post for correct sensor wires:

On second glance this is for an E36 and not an E30. Not sure if it will fit of there are differences.

Engine management / Re: Heater not working
« on: May 08, 2013, 11:26:01 AM »
There was pressure relief valve installed as part of a warranty issue that is attached on the rear heater port of the head. It regulated the flow of coolant to the heater core which prevented the heater core from exploding (which is interesting). Its a mess of hoses and not really needed in most cases. I eliminated mine without issue. You might check to see if your water-pump is dead or double check coolant as the M42 is a PITA to "burp" the air out at times which can prevent coolant flow.  You might also have blockage somewhere.

I scoured the internet with no luck on finding color codes or ways to identify the 3 wires to the head and oil sensor. Right from the manual I found the correct setup with explanation on exactly what i needed.

I will also post reply of replacing the Water port on rear of the head as no one has offered this info.

* Coolant Temperature Gage Sender, Coolant Temperature Sensor - DME, Oil Pressure Switch (Sensors under intake, Temp gauge)*
