haven't checked in on m42club in a while- glad to see you made progress on this project. we talked a while back about using a 750i ECU to do a MAF conversion, but what you've done here allows the use of chip tuning, so even better. i'm definitely in when it's available; i'm pretty sure the VAF meter is holding me back from making power on the top-end with the DBilas setup.

hope married life is treating you well and good luck with the house project.

Engine + Driveline / Injectors suitability

I want know do them pass physically to m42? They flow little bit more than stock injectors 190ccm vs 204 and both are four pinttle injectors and high ohm.

And yes, my problem is lean afr with Dbilas itbs and grinded intake-cam. I tryed S50b30 240ccm injectors but car doesnt work with them. It runs too rich and run very very bad, sound like 2-stroke motor and smell like fireworks.

I think i buy them (204ccm) and try if it works finally:cool:

i'm surprised to hear that... i had to go all the way up to 24lb/hr injectors, with a slight bump in fuel pressure, to get my car to the 12.8:1ish AFR MarkD said was best for the M42.

at 3bar fuel pressure they'll be good for ~17.5lb/hr - double-check what the impedance is, a quick google didn't come up with anything for me

is that coz of emissions?

yes. there are two parts to the smog test here in california- the "sniffer" part which actually measures how clean you are, and the "visual" part where they look to see if any modifications you've done are on the state-approved list. my car passes the sniff test fine (way under limits, actually), but i had to try 4 different shops before i found someone who was willing to ignore the ITBs.

what itbs you got and i take it no turbo yet

dbilas. i have turbo + manifold + intercooler/piping, generally about 80% of what i need, but since even the ITBs are illegal here in the people's republic of california (that goes for turbo too), i'm debating just swapping to M50 instead... not sure.

check for leaks/cracks in the AFM-TB tube, and try swapping out the K&N for a paper filter.

To my highly calibrated butt-dyno, it made zero difference in power.

i'm not really surprised to hear this. get rid of PS (as in remove the hardware, not just the belt), plus AC, and ditch the clutch fan for an electric... then you might notice a difference.

i got rid of my power steering and don't miss it in the slightest- not so much for the power/mileage increase, but i feel i get much more feedback from the car when i'm flogging it now. you can get power steering delete plates on e30tech from one of the members for something like $30 i think, and i recommend it. you will have to use a bit more effort at very low speeds, especially if you're running a smaller steering wheel and 225-series tires like i am, but i wouldn't go back to PS if you paid me.

my airbox is missing the snorkel, so i'm planning on running a headlight delete and some pipe into the stock airbox inlet. i don't really see it affecting gas mileage all that much... gonna make far less difference than what your driving style is like. the link you provided is certainly an interesting approach, but given that plastic is not all that heat-conductive i don't know if it's worth the bother... if you still have the snorkel and don't want to do the headlight delete, then just keep up with the paper filter replacement; anything past that is gonna be subject to the law of diminishing returns pretty quickly.

i had to go to 24lb/hr injectors to get my fuel tune right with my ITBs, so i can't comment on the mustang units.

will this make a big difference to my car? Had the intentions of doing a little drifting and the odd donut, track near me and they hold a diff and drift day maybe once a month, getting tired of just being a spectator. So would this LSD be ok for me?

at this point we're venturing out of the area of hard numbers, into that of opinion- just so you know that's what you're getting here.

given the intent of enthusiastic use, i think you're gonna want to upgrade the clutch- track days alone would warrant it, but going to a slightly taller gear is going to put higher requirements on those parts also.

i'm not saying you have to do this right away, but if you put in the taller diff and take it to drift events, you should plan on a better-than-factory clutch before you need it (especially if this is a daily driver car).

as far as the ratio goes- like Dave said, that's not so big a change as to make the car unusable. if you're willing to take some weight/driven mass out of the car, as i've done with mine (lighter driver/passenger seats, AC/PS/clutch fan gone, rear seat gone, etc), you might not even notice the difference.
