Hey guys i am interested in painting my valve cover this weekend and just wanted to ask your advice on the best way of going about this. Whats the best way to clean up all that cosmoline? I was thinking of having it sandblasted is this ok? Also should i use a primer before painting? Im thinking of using a wrinkle coat paint.
Thanks

Eric. I used the paint remover from Advanced Auto parts. If I remember its called "Aircraft Paint Remover". That stuff did wonders. Then I used a High Heat paint. I chose semi gloss black. I also used a red scotch brite pad to scuff the surface. Good luck.

i used an iron brush, then acetone, and then painted with high temperature paint. Remember to buy new gasket if yours is old

I'm having mine powdercoated black. I wanted to do a two-tone with the ridges silver, but it was going to be too expensive. So now I need to figure out if I should try to paint the ridges or try to sand the powdercoating off so that the metal finish shows.

Paint it - it is easier to apply and easier to touch up should you scratch it.

I went straight to paint - I think I used Rustoleum, since it was on my shelf.

best(and safest) thing ive found to remove cosmoline is citrustrip avaliable at home depot in aresol and and half gallon gel jugs. it will cut paint in a hours time as well. spray it down and let it set a hour(longer is better) and go at it with a stiff wire brush. i did both my intakes and valve covers in a afternoons time. i primmed mine with acidetch primer. havnt painted yet as im still trying to procure the correct color for motorsport stripes.
